Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 cup milk
  • 14 slices bread
  • 3 tablespoon butter or oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg together. Whisk lightly.

  2. Next, add in your egg yolks. Again whisk for one minute. Then, add in your milk. Whisk one last for more another minute.

  3. Place a small amount of butter in a frying pan to melt over medium low heat. Don't put all of it in at once, you want to use a little bit of butter for each batch of cooking.

  4. Then, dip your bread into the egg and milk mixture, making sure to coat both sides.

  5. Then place the dipped bread into the frying pan. Cook each side until golden brown. The first two take about 2 minutes on each side and all the others will go a lot quicker.

Recipe Notes

Only use the egg yolks. Egg whites can give french toast an off-putting smell.
