Apple crisp recipe with oatmeal
Apple crisp is a healthier alternative to apple pie because you don’t have a pie crust, but you still get that apple pie flavor! This apple crisp recipe with oatmeal is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Serve it with a scoop of ice cream or eat it just by itself, it’s that good.

Now, onto the recipe:
Apple Crisp Recipe with Oatmeal
For the Apple Mixture:
5 medium apples ( I used envy apples from the grocery store)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 Tbsp flour
1 tsp cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
dash of allspice
1 cup orange juice
For the topping:
1/2 cup browned butter (see below for instructions)
1 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup old-fashioned oats
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Slice and peel apples either by hand or use this fancy Kitchen Basics® Professional Grade Heavy Duty Apple Peeler, Slicer & Corer to make quick work of it. Then put the apples in a medium mixing bowl and add the orange juice. This not only helps prevent the apples from turning brown, but also balances out the sweetness of the topping.
In a small bowl, whisk the granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice together. Then toss it over the apple/orange juice mixture, until coated evenly. Then add the apple mixture to a greased or non-stick 9x13in cake pan.
Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small frying pan on medium/low heat, stirring occasionally. The butter will foam, and that is okay. What you are looking for is that when you are stirring the butter, it has a dark brown color. Then remove from heat and let stand for about 5 minutes.
Mix the flour, brown sugar, oats, baking powder, and baking soda together. Then pour the brown butter over the dry ingredients and stir until mixture looks crumbly in texture. Add the topping to the prepared apples in the pan.
Finally, put the pan in the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, rotating the pan halfway. Let cool for 10 minutes and then enjoy!
