In the spirit of New Years, January’s theme is new: trying new things and new recipes. What better way to start off than with a new year’s resolution.

Here’s a look at 6 New Years Resolutions that need to be on your list for 2018:

1. Be More Grateful

Our society today is all about keeping up with the Jones’. We seem to be in a competition over every little thing, when we should be more grateful for what we have. I remember seeing on Pinterest a cool quote saying, “I’m too busy working on my own grass to notice if yours is greener.” It is a clever spin off of “grass is greener on the other side”. If we focused more on ourselves than others, I think we would be a lot happier.

2. Improve on a hobby

For me, I have a few hobbies I want to improve on: blogging, photography, sewing, and painting. I am still new to the blogging world, and I haven’t quite gotten the hang of managing my time ( I am after all a stay at home mom of 2). I am hoping this year, I can get a better handle on my time mangagement so that I can post articles more consistently. Also, I need to work on my networking, as I haven’t been promoting my blog on my personal facebook. Partially becuase I’m scared, and partially because I don’t like being vulnerable. I also want to find the time to work on honing my photography skills, sewing skills, and painting skills.

3. Get out of your comfort zone

This ties into my second new year’s resolution, but can also be applied to everyday life in general. Don’t miss out on experiences/events/activities/food just because you aren’t used to them. How are you ever going to know if you like something if you don’t try it (thank you Daniel Tiger’s neighborhood-“you gotta try new food becasue it might taste good”)?

4. Work on bettering you

Not just losing weight. I mean mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially. Often times, it is easy to put losing weight on our resolutions list. While it is an admirable goal, wouldn’t it be bettter to try to better our self altogther?  That is why I am determined that this year I will be a better Catholic, wife, mom, sister, daughter, friend, aunt, and overall a better me.

5. Stop worrying so much

I am a worrier by nature. This year I am going to stop worrying about the things I can’t change/control. I am also going to stop worrying about what other people think (and I’m a people pleaser-so this will, by far, be the most challenging).

6. Stop being so passive

This also ties back to not worrying about what other people think of me. I have always been a passive person. For the longest time, all people had to do was pressure me enough and I would cave. This has led to many unpleasant situations that could have easily been avoided. This new year, I want to be happy. I don’t want to always be persuaded to do things I don’t want. In time, I think people respect you more for knowing what you want and sticking with it.
